Da época da construção da Igreja de N. Sra. dos Remédios, foi usada temporariamente pelos capelães do presídio. No final do séc. XIX e princípio do séc. XX, a casa foi entregue para outros usos, tendo servido como residência dos diretores do presídio e para alojar visitas ilustres. Em fotos antigas, a casa é identificada como “Casa do Director do Presídio”. Uma pequena capela diante da casa, que servia para orações particulares, foi adaptada e funcionou como “escritório” dos comandantes da Colônia Correcional. Entregue a moradores da ilha, sofreu modificações interiores para uso como pousada.
